Automotive Photographer Calgary | BMW S1000RR Photoshoot with Roxy

As an Automotive Photographer in Calgary, I am always looking for motorcycles and riders that create a strong visual story. When I first saw Roxy with her BMW S1000RR, I immediately knew this was a combination I wanted to photograph.

You often see large and powerful sport bikes associated with experienced male riders. Even some experienced motorcyclists approach machines like this with caution. Then I met Roxy.

She is around 150 cm tall, and seeing her with a BMW S1000RR immediately caught my attention. The contrast was almost impossible to ignore. A relatively small rider controlling such a serious motorcycle created exactly the kind of visual story I wanted to photograph.

As an Automotive Photographer in Calgary, and adventure rider too I am always looking for combinations that have character. A motorcycle alone can look impressive. A rider alone can create a strong portrait. However, when the motorcycle and the person genuinely belong together, the photographs become much more interesting.

When I first met Roxy, I was genuinely surprised by the motorcycle she rode. Seeing her next to the S1000RR immediately gave me an idea.

I wanted to photograph both of them together.

The motorcycle has an aggressive design, strong lines, carbon details, bright bodywork, and gold wheels. Roxy also has a very recognizable style. Her tattoos, motorcycle gear, and personality worked perfectly with the bike.

We talked about doing a photoshoot almost immediately.

Finding a time that worked for both of us was another story. Around two weeks passed before our schedules finally matched. Once we had a date, the next challenge appeared.

Calgary decided to give us an extremely hot day.

Finding the Right Calgary Location for a Motorcycle Photoshoot

Strong midday sunlight is rarely your best friend during a portrait session.

Instead of simply placing the motorcycle somewhere and starting to shoot, we spent time looking for useful shade. We needed a location that would protect us from the harsh sunlight but still match the character of the BMW.

I already had one place in mind.

It was an industrial area filled with shipping containers.

For this BMW S1000RR photoshoot in Calgary, I could hardly imagine a better background. The containers added texture, strong colours, geometric lines, and an industrial atmosphere.

A polished studio environment would have created a completely different result. Here, the motorcycle looked like it belonged in the location.

That was exactly what I wanted.

A Few Minutes Were Enough

There was one small problem. The location was an active working area, not a photography studio.

We had to speak with the people working there and explain what we wanted to do. After a good conversation, they allowed us a short amount of time to take the photographs.

We did not have hours to experiment.

We had to work quickly.

That limitation actually made the session more interesting. I already knew the angles I wanted, and Roxy was comfortable around the motorcycle. We moved between portraits, wider compositions, details, and photographs where the BMW became the main subject.

Sometimes you do not need an entire afternoon to create something memorable. You need a strong concept, the right location, and people who are ready to work with the situation.

Automotive and Motorcycle Photography in Calgary

Motorcycle photography is different from simply photographing a vehicle.

The motorcycle has its own shape, colour, reflections, and mechanical details. At the same time, the rider brings personality into the frame. Both elements need to work together.

That is one reason I enjoy automotive photography so much.

I can create clean photographs focused almost entirely on the machine. I can also build a portrait around the rider and use the motorcycle as part of the story.

During this session, we created both.

Some images focus on Roxy and her connection with the BMW. Others place the S1000RR in the foreground while she becomes part of the background. Changing the focus completely changes the feeling of the photograph.

The industrial environment gave us even more possibilities. Blue and red shipping containers created strong colour contrast against the motorcycle, black clothing, and gold wheels.

Everything came together naturally.

More Than Just a Motorcycle

For many riders, a motorcycle is not simply transportation.

It becomes part of their personality, lifestyle, and memories. That is why I approach motorcycle sessions differently from a standard vehicle shoot.

I want the photographs to show more than specifications or expensive parts.

I want them to show the relationship between the rider and the machine.

Roxy and her BMW S1000RR were a perfect example. The contrast that first surprised me became one of the strongest parts of the photoshoot.

A small rider. A very serious motorcycle. An industrial Calgary location. Limited time. Extreme heat.

And somehow, all of those elements worked together.

That is exactly why I enjoy this type of photography.

If you are looking for an Automotive Photographer in Calgary for your motorcycle, car, custom build, or automotive project, I can help create photographs that show both the machine and the personality behind it.
